So I figured I'd start a thread to give a few peeks at some sketches from my notebooks and sketchbooks, just some teasers I guess lol.

Some will never become anything really, whereas some might evolve into full fledged pictures one day. Most of the time I'm just working out some concepts and ideas or ... just doodling!

As you can see, I tend to scribble a rough draft on any old paper that I happen to have handy ... then if I like it - I'll transfer it over and work on it a little bit more before moving it to the paper I will complete it on.

Anyway, just some of the sketches I've been doing of mermaids ... some of these will make iot to the final stages and some of them will just live as they are - or I'll take pieces of them and use them for other pieces LOL.

Those are awesome! But for me, it shows me how an artist works which is invaluable to me! All those scattered pictures I have around the house exactly like these?? OMG!!! Who knew I was ready to do those!!! Thank you for this!! I tend to think all my scribbles as you call em, are worthless as an art form, but now... yeeeee Haaaawww!!! lol

Well yeah - I could throw these away since they are just doodles and I've thrown better than them away before ... but it sort of shows a little peek on how I work through a concept, and I *love* seeing other artists sketchbooks!

Heck, I forgot I even did a bunch of them and kind of got inspired to see them again, hehe!!

beautiful sketches!!! love viewing works in progress , i always forget and I'm lazy to scan mine, it's amazing how a masterpiece can start from a little idea ,beautiful work faerydae!!

I'm sort of weird, I often will keep the original image - even if I've used it as a transfer lol, many times for decades. Not really sure why - just hard to let them go fully I guess.

artwork i keep transferring it and trying out ideas

me too!! lol... I'm finally back to workin on some clay... doin a wizard right now, but without a good chair to sit in, think I'm going to work a bit on my sketchs too!! I actually pulled them out the other day... some are so sorry, but hey... some are not too bad... there is hope!! lol

I have sucky ones too! I only scanned the best ones cuz I'm vain like that LOL!

I have started a new project of drawing a mermaid a day in attempt to improve my art.
They aren't as good as yours,mine are very rough but i might post some here.

Good is relative - never forget that. My stuff is lame compared to artists that are actually good!

Awww! Remember, never compare yourself to ANYone else - only compare your work to your work! If you try to compare your stuff to anyone else's you will always feel down about what you are doing and get all bummed.

The reality is we are all at our own places in our own journeys - we all have something to offer, something to give, our own strengths, our own weaknesses, and our own unique imaginations!

In as little as a month you will see improvement on your work if you keep your daily goal. In 3 months you'll be flabbergasted and in 6t months you will never believe that allll the stuff you thought was your "best ever" is nothing compared to what you are producing in the present.

We all go through the same thing too lol.

but don't kick yourself or down yourself, don;t look at what you haven't improved on as much as you see what you HAVE improved on.

My Flickr set of images of my older art isn't all that great by any means, it's pretty lame as art goes, really. LOL. And I used to think each one was like a "masterpiece" on typing paper. LOL.

Isn't that funny how we don't think we measure up... I know also now... thank you faerydae... that I'm not the only one with hit & misses!! Good to know I'm not alone!!

Amethyst~fae... great great idea on the mermaid a day plan!! Hope you're stickin to it!! honestly, you WILL amaze yourself at your progress... What faerydae said about your past work that you thought was so great... it will pale by comparison to the next ones you do... and we really do go thru the same process... I do every year when I go thru last years stuff compared to this ones!!

LOL. Very true, I done been called. I need to listen to my own preaching I guess, LOL!

I loved the sketches. Some of my best work started on a postit note. I bought a hardbound sketch book, can't bring myself to put anything in it, such a commitment. Im sticking to the on hand paper, more condusive to new work and moving on, can always collect it to one place. Thank you all for sharing.

Yeah I can't use the hardbounds either - I always feel like everything in it ought to be grand and most of my scribbles are NOT grand in any sense LOL.

I prefer the spiral sketch books myself.

Your doing it again,"MOMSANGinas", whoa! I probably wont share my sucky ones either but all your sketches that you did share are awsome. We all learn from our less than sharable work; a new tail, a tilt to the head, texture, shoulder to hip angle, hair... eventually these come together in new work that amazes even ourself. Thanks to the 'sucky ones"or"momsangs'. Thanks to you and this wonderful site.
